Stop Everything

When your child is sick your only priority and focus should be the child.   Other responsibilities still exist and are just as important (i.e newborn) but in reality many, many things can be delayed or simply not done at all.    I'm not talking about housework.
My 10 year daughter spent the day home sick.  After a trip to the doctor, we spent the day watching movies and talking about girl stuff. . a lazy day indeed.  What struck me was MY lack of guilt and worry about missing work.  Thinking about the number of emails I'd have the next day or the meetings I missed did not cause my stress level to rise.   I was simply unable to shut off work.
You're probably thinking, Duh Shannon how can you feel guilty about missing something you don't have.   Well all I can say is that once you have a little distance from situation, relationship or whatever objectivity sets in.
Previous sick days I know 80- 90% of my attention wasn't on my son or daughter.  Does this make me a bad Mother?  NO !    Do I feel guilty?  Yes
I'm just being honest.  Any thoughts, please leave a comment.

Take a deep breath

A quick Google search today gave me an unexpected scare.   Oregon's unadjusted unemployment rate is slightly above 11%.   OR Data- Quick Look    Now, I could have expanded my search to find a more "accurate" number, but what's the point.   The number is irrelevant when it applies to you.   After a few deep breaths I kicked up my job search a few notches.    It feels good to have a plan and routine from the comfort of  my own couch.
Oh, and I can't forget my trusty Boston Terrier Lulu is never far from my side.

Life in Tranistion

I am a 40 something wife, mother of two and recently unemployed.   I've been home for the last three weeks.   I don't worry about Monday morning as I use to.   The pace of life is slower.   Laundry is done and my house is spotless and organized.   Above all I've enjoyed the additional time I've been able to spend with my family.  I have a renewed appreciation for the simple things.  Eating breakfast with my son and daughter without rushing to be out the door by certain time has been a blessing.
